In the week ending 17 June 2022 (Week 24), 10,844 deaths were registered in England and Wales; this was 15.4% above the five-year average (1,444 excess deaths).
The number of deaths registered in England in the week ending 17 June 2022 (Week 24) was 10,162; this was 15.5% above the five-year average (1,365 excess deaths).
The number of deaths registered in Wales in the week ending 17 June 2022 (Week 24) was 658; this was 13.1% above the five-year average (76 excess deaths).
Of the deaths registered in Week 24 in England and Wales, 264 mentioned “novel coronavirus (COVID-19)”, accounting for 2.4% of all deaths; this was 20 fewer deaths, with “novel coronavirus (COVID-19)” mentioned compared with the previous week.
