1. Main points
The approximate gross value added at basic prices (aGVA) of the UK non-financial business economy was estimated to be £1,651.6 billion in 2023; an increase of £54.9 billion (3.4%) compared with 2022.
The non-financial services sector, which accounted for over half (57.2%) of total aGVA in 2023, increased by £51.4 billion (5.7%) to £945.3 billion.
Information and communication saw the largest rise in aGVA, increasing by £11.6 billion (7.1%), from £164.0 billion to £175.6 billion.
Total turnover and purchases of the UK non-financial business economy were estimated to be £5,017.0 billion and £3,358.4 billion, respectively; an increase of £75.6 billion (1.5%) and a decrease of £2.8 billion (0.1%) compared with 2022.

3. Data sources and quality
72.14% of sampled businesses were included in the final Annual Business Survey (ABS) results in 2023. Quality measures for the ABS results are available in our Non-financial business economy, UK: quality measures dataset.
Employment data
The employment data have been removed from this publication. These data can be found in our Employees in Great Britain: 2023 bulletin. This bulletin includes data from the Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES), downloaded from the Nomis web portal.
Data sources and collection
The ABS is a sample survey of approximately 73,000 businesses across the UK. The ABS draws its sample from the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR).
