Non-financial business economy, UK (Annual Business Survey): 2024 results
What's in the bulletin?
- The approximate gross value added at basic prices (aGVA) of the UK non-financial business economy was estimated to be £1,725.2 billion in 2024; this is an increase of £62.4 billion (3.7%) compared with the revised 2023 results.
- The non-financial services sector, which accounted for over half (59.2%) of total aGVA in 2024, increased by £57.8 billion (6.0%), to £1021.6 billion; administrative and support service activities saw the largest increase in aGVA, of £13.4 billion (8.6%), increasing from £156.1 billion to £169.5 billion.
- Total turnover and purchases of the UK non-financial business economy were estimated to be £5,089.0 billion and £3,346.7 billion in 2024, respectively; this is an increase of £41.7 billion (0.8%) and a decrease of £29.4 billion (negative 0.9%) compared with 2023.

What's in the bulletin?
- More than one in seven (15%) trading businesses reported that their turnover had increased in July 2026 when compared with the previous month, broadly stable with June 2026; 22% of trading businesses reported that their turnover had decreased in July when compared with the previous month, also broadly stable over the same period.
- Economic uncertainty (29%) remained the most reported challenge affecting turnover for trading businesses in August 2026, down 3 percentage points from July 2026, but up 4 percentage points from August 2025; for businesses with 10 or more employees, cost of labour (35%) was the most reported challenge, broadly stable with July 2026.
- More than one in seven (15%) trading businesses reported that they expect their turnover to increase in September 2026, broadly stable with expectations for August 2026; 15% reported that they expect their turnover to decrease, down 3 percentage points from expectations for August 2026, but broadly stable with September 2025.
