In November 2017, Office for National Statistics suspended Dataset A08 (Labour market status of disabled people) for subsequent time periods due to an apparent discontinuity between Quarter 2 (April to June) and Quarter 3 (July to September) 2017. This article updates a previous analysis of the discontinuity that has been completed prior to reinstating Dataset A08.

A feasibility study into producing Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH)-consistent inflation rates for UK regions was published by Southampton University, supported by Office for National Statistics, in November 2017. Its recommendations on improving expenditure estimates at a regional level and how this may lead to more stable regional CPIH estimates are followed up in this second report.

In November 2017, we suspended Dataset A08 (Labour market status of disabled people) due to a large increase between Quarter 2 and 3 2017. While the evidence was not conclusive we could not identify any quality issues and reinstated the dataset from 15 May 2018 subject to health warnings. This article makes conclusions about the nature of the large increase and provides advice to users about how to interpret the disability series.
