I'd like to know the total number of deaths in England and Wales for the years 2000 all the way through until 2022.

We hold the following analysis: Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. This dataset provides annual deaths in the United Kingdom and constituent countries from 1940 to 2020. 2021 data will be published in this format on 24 February 2023.
Our Deaths Registered series provides 2021 data for England and Wales. Finalised 2022 data will be published in this dataset in early July 2023 to allow for the inclusion of late registrations, which are deaths referred for Coroner investigation. More information on late registrations can be found in our Impact of registration delays on mortality statistics in England and Wales.
2022 data is still provisional but is available by totalling our Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales data set, however this is subject to change to allow the inclusion of late registrations.
