Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

However, please see the following information we have available for England and Wales related to your request:

COVID-19 Vaccine deaths and adverse reactions in England and Wales:

Please see the following previously published FOI response, which provides the answer to this part of your request: COVID-19 vaccine deaths and adverse reactions - Office for National Statistics

Deaths in care homes following receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine and positive tests in England and Wales:

In order to provide the number of COVID-19 deaths occurring in care homes detailing if the deceased was vaccinated, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

For the care home resident population, weekly deaths notified to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are available in Table 4 of the following dataset: Number of deaths in care homes notified to the Care Quality Commission, England. We now also publish provisional counts of the number of care home resident deaths registered in England and Wales, by region, including deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), in the latest weeks for which data are available.

The domiciliary care data provided in the following publication, Deaths involving COVID-19 in the care sector, England and Wales, was provided by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We do not currently hold updated domiciliary care data past what is presented within this release.  However, we will be publishing an update to our Deaths involving COVID-19 in the care sector, England and Wales, which currently has a provisional release date for May 2021. When a publication date is finalised it will be announced via our Release Calendar.

With regards to testing in care homes, please contact Public Health England, who may be better placed to assist. They can be contacted via email at: wn_coronavirus@phe.gov.uk for COVID-19 related queries, or enquiries@phe.gov.uk for regular enquiries.

COVID-19 deaths with no underlying conditions in England and Wales:

Please see the following previously answered FOI request, which provides the data we hold on deaths from COVID-19 where there were no other underlying health conditions: https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/covid19deathswithnounderlyingcausebyage

We also produce the following publication, which may be of interest: Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales publication. The downloadable datafile beneath Figure 2 provides weekly deaths that are due to COVID-19 and deaths involving COVID-19. We use the term "due to COVID-19" when referring only to deaths where that illness was recorded as the primary cause of death.

We use the term "involving COVID-19" when referring to deaths that had that illness mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether as an underlying cause or not.

Deaths involving suicide 2020 in England and Wales:

Our statistics are based on the date of registration, therefore our annual Suicides in the UK release is based on 2019 death registrations.

Most suicides require an inquest, where a coroner investigates the death. The amount of time it takes to hold an inquest causes a lag between the date of death and the date of death registration, referred to as a registration delay. Registration delays for deaths caused by suicide tend to be 5 to 6 months on average.

We produce provisional suicide data for England on a quarterly basis, with the next update including deaths that have been registered from January to June of 2020. This is for deaths registered in 2020, and due to the registration delay described above, most of these deaths would have occurred in 2019.

Suicides in the UK will be updated with 2020 data once the data are finalised in September 2021.
