We’re the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK’s largest, independent producer of official statistics. If we’ve chosen you for one of our surveys, it’s so important that you join the thousands of people taking part.

This is your chance to help shape the future of the UK. It starts with you.

What are ONS surveys about?

Our surveys allow us to collect information on a wide range of topics. We use this information to produce important statistics. Your answers will make sure the information we collect accurately represents you and your community.

Our surveys and statistics help us understand things like the cost of living and the level of inflation. They’re used to set important measures such as the UK’s interest rate, which impacts decisions like rent prices and mortgage rates.

We choose addresses to complete our surveys at random. If you’ve been chosen but decide not to take part, you cannot be replaced, as this would affect how representative the survey is.

How can you confirm an ONS survey is genuine?

You will receive an invitation letter from us to take part in our surveys, and we will identify ourselves as the ONS whenever we contact you. We will do this by displaying our logo on all letters and leaflets.

Our interviewers will carry an ONS identification card when they arrive at your home. If you’d like to confirm that they’re a real interviewer for the ONS, you can ask for their unique ID number and call us on 0800 298 5313 to check.

We will never ask for your bank details, or any kind of payment.

How do we keep your information safe?

At the ONS, our statistics are impartial and free of political control. We do not allow anything to influence the statistics we publish.

We’re not a commercial or market research organisation or associated with any political parties.

Protecting your information is our priority. It’s a legal requirement for us to protect the information you share and keep your answers confidential.

Your answers will remain confidential, and we will only use them for statistical purposes. No one will be able to identify you or see your personal details in any of the statistics we publish.

We do not use your information to contact you about anything else, and we will not give your information to anyone else for them to do so either.
