Aim of this survey

The information collected from the Monthly Survey for Index Numbers of Producer Prices is used to compile the Producer Price Indices (PPI), which are a series of economic indicators that measure the price movement of goods bought and sold by UK manufacturers.

The PPI provides a key measure of inflation, alongside other indicators such as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Services Producer Prices (SPPI). Main customers of the PPI include the Treasury and the Bank of England and internally used by National Accounts for deflation purposes. The indices are also used for other purposes such as the calculation of price variation clauses in commercial contracts.
