    In 2014, as the consequence of a 2013 European Union e-commerce taskforce, chaired by Lord Young of Graffham, the Office for National Statistics began a project to consider how it could contribute to the monitoring of e-commerce nationally. This report proposes the use of an indicator set, combining a dashboard approach alongside an interactive graphic, and sets out some potential future developments.

This represents 2.4% of all people in employment, an increase of 0.4% from the same period in 2014. People on a “zero-hours contract” are more likely to be women, in full-time education or in young or older age groups. They are likely to work 25 hours a week.

  • 2011 Census analysis: General Health in Overcrowded and Under-occupied Households in England and Wales

    Using 2011 Census data, we look at residents living in overcrowded and under-occupied households and their general health. Results show residents living in overcrowded households reported significantly higher levels of “not good” health compared with those living in under-occupied households. Young people (aged 0 to 15) were more than twice as likely to report “not good” health if they lived in overcrowded households.

    We take a look at ethnicity in the labour market using data from the 2011 Census and the Labour Force Survey (LFS). Analysis includes economic activity, characteristics of employment, gender differences and young people in the labour market. Evidence has shown that patterns of economic activity vary widely across different ethnic minority groups with some groups experiencing lower employment than others. In the 2011 Census, the “Other White” ethnic group had the highest employment rate of all ethnic groups at 77%. This was the case for both males and females.
