Number of deaths due to and involving choking, by sex and five year age group. Based on deaths regsitered in England and Wales from 2018 to 2022.
Deaths 'due to' choking are those where ICD-10 code W79 or W80 was recorded as the underlying cause. Deaths 'involving' choking are those where ICD-10 code W79 or W80 was recorded anywhere on the death certificate, whether as the underlying cause, secondary cause, or contributory factor.
