Tables M546a and b, and tables M48a and b (added 13.09.06)

Details

Until 16/08/2006 the tables contained three footnotes that incorrectly explained the categorisation within the table of economically active people, aged 65-74, who had never worked.

Analyses of ever worked and HRP NS-SeC includes all 16-74 HRPs; except those economically inactive HRPs aged 65-74 coded to 'Never worked' or 'Not classifiable'.

The 'Remainder' category in NS-SeC includes economically inactive HRPs aged 65-74 who were given an NS-SeC code for either 'Never worked' or 'Not classifiable'. Some of these persons were miscoded due to an error in processing.

Persons counted by their HRP's NS-SeC are included in the table according to the restriction above.

Comments

The table has been corrected and is now available, free of charge, on request from Customers are advised to remove these footnotes from the tables they hold or request, from Census Customer Services, tables with these footnotes removed. The tables should contain a footnote as follows "An error in processing has resulted in under estimation of the numbers of economically inactive people aged 65 - 74 who had never worked in tables containing these data throughout England and Wales. This also has a significant impact on tables containing NS-SeC figures derived from this economic activity information. The errors do not affect Census figures for Scotland or Northern Ireland.
