Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

The Volume Index of Capital Services (VICS) are official statistics in development. Users are advised to refer to the May 2025 VICS publication as the most recent release, which remains the most robust and reliable version available. The VICS dataset released on 7 November 2025 contained data issues. This included double counting within the gross fixed capital formation input data, which has now been corrected. Data issues mainly affecting the historical time series are undergoing a full review. To maintain our commitment to producing high quality, reliable and accurate statistics, the VICS data are further undergoing a full methodological review. Publication dates will be confirmed once the review is complete. We appreciate users’ understanding and will provide further updates as soon as they are available. We apologise for these ongoing issues.

Due to processing error, Volume Index of Capital Services dataset included current price data under the constant price heading. The dataset has now been updated to contain constant price data. Labelling of division level industries has also been updated. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
