Variable and dataset information

Area type

Census 2021 statistics are published for a number of different geographies. These can be large, for example the whole of England, or small, for example an output area (OA), the lowest level of geography for which statistics are produced.

For higher levels of geography, more detailed statistics can be produced. When a lower level of geography is used, such as output areas (which have a minimum of 100 persons), the statistics produced have less detail. This is to protect the confidentiality of people and ensure that individuals or their characteristics cannot be identified.

Awdurdodau lleol haen is

Mae awdurdodau lleol haen is yn darparu amrywiaeth o wasanaethau lleol. Mae 309 o awdurdodau lleol haen is yn Lloegr, sy'n cynnwys 181 o ddosbarthau anfetropolitanaidd, 59 o awdurdodau unedol, 36 o ddosbarthau metropolitanaidd a 33 o fwrdeistrefi Llundain (gan gynnwys Dinas Llundain). Statws gweithgarwch economaidd (20 o gategorïau)

Mae pobl 16 oed a throsodd yn weithgar yn economaidd os, rhwng 15 Mawrth a 21 Mawrth 2021, roeddent:

* mewn gwaith (gweithiwr cyflogedig neu'n hunangyflogedig)

* yn ddi-waith, ond yn chwilio am waith ac yn gallu dechrau o fewn pythefnos

* yn ddi-waith, ond yn aros i ddechrau swydd a oedd wedi'i chynnig a'i derbyn

Mae'n ffordd o fesur a oedd unigolyn yn rhan weithredol o'r farchnad lafur yn ystod y cyfnod hwn ai peidio. Pobl anweithgar yn economaidd yw'r bobl 16 oed a throsodd rhai nad oedd ganddynt swydd rhwng 16 Mawrth a 21 Mawrth 2021 ac nad oeddent wedi chwilio am waith rhwng 22 Chwefror a 21 Mawrth 2021 neu na allent ddechrau gweithio o fewn pythefnos.

Mae diffiniad y cyfrifiad yn wahanol i ddiffiniad y Sefydliad Llafur Rhyngwladol a ddefnyddir yn yr Arolwg o'r Llafurlu, felly nid oes modd cymharu'r amcangyfrifon yn uniongyrchol.

Mae’r dosbarthiad yma yn rhannu myfyrwyr amser llawn oddi wrth y rhai sydd yn fyfyrwyr rhan-amser pan fyddant yn gyflogedig neu yn ddi-waith. Argymhellir ywchwanegi rhain gydai’n gilydd i edrych ar bob un o’r rheini sydd mewn cyflogaeth neu yn ddi-waith, neu i defnyddio’r dosbarthiad farchnad lafur pedwar categori, os ydych am edrych ar bawb sydd â statws marchnad lafur arbennig.

Protecting personal data

Sometimes we need to make changes to data if it is possible to identify individuals. This is known as statistical disclosure control.

In Census 2021, we:

  • swapped records (targeted record swapping), for example, if a household was likely to be identified in datasets because it has unusual characteristics, we swapped the record with a similar one from a nearby small area (very unusual households could be swapped with one in a nearby local authority)
  • added small changes to some counts (cell key perturbation), for example, we might change a count of four to a three or a five – this might make small differences between tables depending on how the data are broken down when we applied perturbation
