Thank you for your recent query regarding women in business. Unfortunately we are not able to answer most of your queries as they relate to policy areas outside the Office for National Statistics (ONS). We advise you to contact the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as they might be able to answer the questions that you sent us under the heading ‘Enterprise’. For information on Government Support Schemes we advise you to contact the Department for Work and Pensions.

Information on the number of married women in work and their proportion of the overall number of women in work can be obtained from the customer services team of ONS Social Survey. Special extracts and tabulations of data are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries should be made to socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk.

As this information is already available to you via this route, we consider that s.21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. s.21(1) is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

Another route would be to access the Labour Force Survey datasets at the UK Data Service if you are able to run your own analysis. Please see the information on the UK data Service at the bottom of this e-mail.
