Thank you for your Freedom of Information request about the population of L17 (Aigburth), Liverpool and the number of empty houses there.

Ward data is available from the mid-2018 Ward level population estimates.

However, L17 is actually a postcode district and may not coincide exactly with a ward.

The most up to date population estimates by postcode that we have published are from the 2011 Census. To access these data, click the following link: NOMIS, which will take you to the Nomis website. Click on the purple header entitled "Census Statistics". On the following page, click on "Table Finder". Next, under "Keyword filter options" click on "Population density, then click on "Usual resident population" (KS101EW).

On the left-hand side of the following page, click on "Query data". Next, click on "Geography" on the left-hand side of the screen, before scrolling down to "Postcode" and selecting "All" or "Some" from the drop-down menu that corresponds to the level of postcode you require. If you click on "Some", you will be presented with a drop-down list of the areas for which data are available; simply tick the boxes next to each of the areas for which you require data. Finally, go to the left-hand side of the screen and click on "Download Data". Nomis will then ask you how you would like your data to be formatted.

You can also get these data at a lower level of postcode by using the following instructions. Go to the Nomis website and click on the purple header entitled "Census Statistics". On the following page, click on "Headcounts and Household Estimates for postcodes in England and Wales", then select the "All postcodes" file. More recent population estimates data by postcode, sex and age can be obtained using the Census Output Area population estimates - North West, England (available for all persons, male and female) and the Postcode to Output Area, Lower Layer Super Output Area to Middle Layer Super Output Area to Local Authority District (August 2018) Lookup in the UK.

You can also use the Postcode to Parish to Ward to Local Authority lookup to map the postcodes you require to wards, though they may not be an exact match.

While we don't publish the number of empty houses, but you may find useful data in Table 615 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's (MHCLG) publication, Live tables on dwelling stock (including vacants). For further information about this table you would need to contact MHCLG directly.
