FOI-2026-3765

You asked

Please could you provide the following Census data:

Variables: for each Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) in England, the number of people working in that LSOA, broken down by National Statistics Socio-economic Classification (NS-SEC) category (i.e. the data available here, but at LSOA level: https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/construct/summary.asp?mode=construct&version=0&dataset=1316).

Year: 2011. Please use 2011 LSOA boundaries.

Please provide this data at the most detailed NS-SEC classification available.

If you do not hold this information, what is the finest level of geography for which it is available? And are there other public bodies that may hold it?

We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the exact dataset you requested, and you have already identified the closest match in the above link.

However, you may be able to commission a bespoke table that details the exact information you have requested at the LSOA geography, from the Commissioned Tables team.

If you would like to request a dataset, please complete the request form in the previous link.

Please note that because of the smaller geography included within LSOAs, the level of detail provided for NS-SEC may need to be condensed to pass statistical disclosure control.

This does come at a cost and there is currently a short waiting time in production once the form has been submitted. However, all tables are subject to Statistical Disclosure Control methods so this could pose a short delay.

As this information is already available to you via this route ONS considers that S21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. S21(1) is an absolute exemption, and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

If you have any further questions, or would like to obtain a quote to produce a bespoke table, please contact Census.customer.services@ons.gov.uk
