You asked
I am looking at the effect of minimum wage on employment between 1998 - 2018.
Please could you provide data between the years 1998-2017 regarding the split of public and private sector female employment for each UK region.
Furthermore, I am also seeking data regarding fertility rates for each UK region for the same 1998-2017 time period.
I would also like information regarding the % of females holding a degree in each UK region for the 1998-2017 time period.
Finally, I would appreciate data regarding the ethnicity of female workers in UK regions for the 1998-2017 time period.

Thank you for your request.
We produce detailed employment statistics for women within regions from the Annual Population Survey (APS). The APS is a household sample survey which categorises individuals to labour market status in line with International Labour Organisation (ILO) definitions based on responses to interview. In addition, the APS collects a range of personal information including the age, sex and ethnicity of those interviewed. Although, based on the information collected, it is possible to produce estimates for all the categories you have identified, due to the APS being a sample survey, there is a limit to the level of detail that it is sensible to produce.
Estimates of the number of women in the public and private sector in each region, percentage of women with degrees in each region and ethnicity of female workers in each region is available on our Nomis website (https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/) for the periods from 2004 onwards. Since this is the first year in which the APS was conducted, data prior to this period is not readily available. This data is available in the associated downloads.
It should be noted that estimates of public and private sector employment from the APS are based on respondents’ answers to the survey and will therefore differ from the official definitions used by us for National Accounts purposes. This is because an individual’s perception of the sector that they work in may differ from official classifications.
It would be possible to request to have a specific analysis produced by our social surveys team. Please note that there may be a charge for this service depending on the amount of time taken to develop the analysis and undertake quality and disclosure control processes.
