Thank you for your enquiry

We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

In order to provide analysis showing daily deaths for January to March 2020, we would need to create bespoke. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

For data from January to March 2020, we had one registered death in January, which was a late registration. This late registration death can be found within our Monthly Mortality Analysis publication.

Within the Deaths registered weekly publication, we do publish UK daily COVID-19 deaths. Data is available from March 2020 to January 22nd, 2021. This publication is updated every Tuesday.

When the data is finalised in July 2021 as part of the Deaths Registered Series, this information will be available to request as a custom output. This will be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate
