Please note that, whilst statistics from the 1951 Census have been published and are freely available, no personal information about any individual is available. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 makes it an offence to disclose personal information while it remains in the custody of the Statistics Board. All censuses from 1921 onwards are held in custody of the UK Statistics Authority and their release is therefore currently prohibited. Provisions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (section 44) state that information is exempt if its disclosure is prohibited by, or under, any other enactment. Current Government policy is that the UK Statistics Authority should retain all census returns from the 1921 Census onwards, for 100 years.
