You asked

I would be interested to find out from the data set “Crime in England and Wales: Additional tables on Fraud and Cybercrime (year ending September 2018)” the following:

  • Total recorded incidents of computer misuse by police force area (or any other geolocation data)
  • Total recorded incidents of unauthorised access to personal information including hacking by police force area (or any other geolocation data)

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold the information requested, however we hope you may find the following information helpful. The figures you refer to are estimates derived from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). Due to the small sample sizes at this level, police force area breakdowns of computer misuse and unauthorised access to personal information are not available.

You may be interested in an ad-hoc piece of analysis published on our website which provides estimated incidence rates for headline crime categories, including computer misuse, by police force area, from the year ending March 2016 to the year ending March 2018 Crime Survey for England and Wales. Please note the caveats provided alongside these estimates.

If you have any crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
