You asked

I am looking for data of hate crimes and hate incidents by town (or county) if possible. Further with the ethnicity breakdown of the town (or county) as well as age, if possible information on sexuality and transgender status of the area would also be great.

However the main focus of my request is hate crime incidents and crimes broken down via location and the ethnic breakdown in numbers (ratio to national average would also be great) of those locations.

The Home Office produce an annual publication titled 'Hate Crime, England and Wales'. The 2014 to 2015 release was published on the 13th October 2015, here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2014-to-2015

This publication includes statistics from two main sources: police recorded crime and the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). Appendix tables for the most recent release can also be found in the above link.

Table 2.01 in the appendix tables contains recorded crime data for each police force area and region, broken down by monitored hate crime strands, which includes sexual orientation and transgender.

Table 4.05 in the appendix tables contains CSEW estimates of the prevalence of hate crime against adults aged 16 and over for England and Wales as a whole, broken down by a range of personal characteristics including age, ethnic group and religion. CSEW hate crime data are not available for regions or police force areas as the sample size is too small to produce robust estimates.

If you have any further enquiries regarding this publication the Home Office may be able to help you and can be contacted by email at: crimeandpolicestats@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

The next version of the 'Hate crime, England and Wales' publication (Hate crime, England and Wales, 2015 to 2016), which will cover the time period of April 2015 to March 2016, is due to be published by the Home Office on 13th October 2016.

For future reference, you do not need to use a Freedom of Information request to ask for data. It is usually quicker to simply email us at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
