FOI REF: FOI/2023/4764

You asked

Please could you tell me why when we are using deaths data for COVID-19 deaths, we quote data 21 days following a COVID-19 vaccination, but why we still refer to the 21 day time frame when it is a non-COVID-19 death.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

In the Deaths by vaccination status, England publication we have used 21 days after vaccination as this is when the vaccine starts to be effective. Non-COVID-19 mortality rates can also be affected by seasonal mortality and the healthy vaccine effect.

Further information and analysis of non-COVID-19 deaths by vaccination status can be found in part 5 of the Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England December 2021.
