Thank you for your enquiry.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) only hold data for England and Wales. For Scotland and Northern Ireland data you will need to contact the National Records of Scotland and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Centre, respectively.

We do not have any sources of data for deaths outside the UK.

All the ONS mortality data come from the information collected at death registration. Ethnicity is not recorded as part of the Death registration, so we are unable to provide this information.

The latest weekly deaths figures can be found here: Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional. The latest data are provisional, and this is the only release that will include data as recent as 2019 to 2020. COVID-19 deaths will be included from the week ending 20 March, with a publication date of 31 March. The count of deaths from respiratory diseases lags one week behind the totals to allow time for accurate coding of the health conditions mentioned on the death certificate. The respiratory diseases figures are updated with each weekly publication, as the coding of the underlying cause is not always complete at the time of production.

We have several open data sources from which you can obtain cause of death data:

We may be able to create a custom output. Information on deaths registered as suicide along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. These will be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs (where appropriate). Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
