​​Could you please tell me the total amount of doctors and nurses that have died from COVID-19 in England in the period 2020 to 2022, broken down by individual year and also month, if possible?

Occupations are defined using the Standard Occupation Classification (SOC 2010). Definitions of all groups and individual occupations can be found via the following link: SOC 2010.

Our latest release on this topic, named Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales: deaths registered between 9 March and 28 December 2020, provides COVID-19 deaths by minor occupation group in Table 6. This is split by sex aged between 20-64. This was not aggregated further with lockdown and non-lockdown periods due to disclosive figures that would be produced, in line with our disclosure control policy: Policy on protecting confidentiality in tables of birth and death statistics.

The occupational codes used are:

  • 2211 Medical Practitioner
  • 2212 Psychologists
  • 2231 Nurses
  • 2232 Midwives
