Do you have any data on mortality by ethnicity prior to 2012?

Unfortunately, we have not conducted analysis of mortality data by ethnicity prior to 2012. Our most recent publication looks at Mortality from leading causes of death by ethnic group, England and Wales which looks at data from 2012 to 2019.
Ethnicity is not currently recorded on the death certificate and therefore we need to create new information by linking mortality data with self-reported ethnicity using Census data. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), public authorities are not obliged to create new information in order to answer FOI requests. This information therefore is not held.
