Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

Correction See correction
We identified a weighting error which resulted in Wales and Scotland being weighted to the wrong populations. This issue occurred because of a processing error, and should not impact any future analysis. The estimates and associated population counts for Wales and Scotland breakdowns in Table_1c and Table_2c have been updated. The population counts for England, Wales and Scotland may not sum to the “all persons” Great Britain total. This is because the weights for those in Wales and Scotland have been updated to correct for the weighting issue identified, whereas the Great Britain estimates have not been updated. This error does not affect the message or findings. Given the small impact on other estimates these have not been updated. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
