Summary of request

Estimates of the percentage of people aged 16 to 24 years not in education, employment or training (NEET), for Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the North West Region, England and the UK. Rates are also split by sex and age group (16 to 17, and 18 to 24 years). Estimates are derived from the Annual Population Survey and are not comparable with published quarterly estimates based on the Labour Force Survey.

Notice

23 July 2026

Since publication of the user-requested dataset on 3 June, we have added additional information to better communicate the uncertainty associated with estimates based on small sample sizes. This includes explanatory notes and shading to identify estimates where sample sizes are low and users should exercise caution when interpreting the figures.

The methodology used to derive young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) estimates from the Annual Population Survey (APS) is not fully consistent with either the UK-level estimates based on the Labour Force Survey (LFS) or the regional estimates produced by the Department for Education. Because of these methodological differences and the greater uncertainty currently associated with some APS-based estimates, these tables should only be used for indicative purposes. We do not recommend using these figures for drawing substantive conclusions.

In line with Office for National Statistics policy, user-requested datasets are not removed following publication, but we have added appropriate caveats and guidance to support users in interpreting these estimates correctly.
