Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

We have corrected a processing error in the Consumer trends time series dataset affecting chained volume estimates and the associated growths for the data period of 1985 to 1997. The series with the Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP) codes and associated aggregate series 03.1.2, 03.2.2, 04.1.2, 04.4.2, 05.1.3, 07.1.1, 07.2.2, 08.2, 09.1.2, 09.1.3, 11.1.1, 12.1.2, have been updated. All other series and data periods from 1998 onwards are unaffected. We apologise for this correction.

A processing error has been identified in the calculation of four indices' published values, from 2024 to the latest. OSXR - Real Households' and NPISH disposable income: Index (reference year 2023 = 100) Not seasonally adjusted OSXS - Real Households' and NPISH disposable income: Index (reference year 2023 = 100) Seasonally adjusted DG2Z - Real Households' disposable income: Index (reference year 2023 = 100) Not seasonally adjusted DG43 - Real Households' disposable income: Index (reference year 2023 = 100) Seasonally adjusted These have now been corrected. We apologise for this error. Please note: Data for 2023 onwards for these series were also affected by the same processing error for the following earlier editions of the dataset, which have not been corrected: July to September 2024, October to December 2024, and January to March 2025. Please use the most recent dataset if you are interested in these series.
