Variables for use with research and analysis using Census 2021 data.

  • Demography variables

    Includes age, sex, household composition and legal partnership status.

  • Education variables

    Includes the highest qualification people have gained and people who are in full-time education.

  • Ethnic group, national identity, language and religion variables

    Includes languages, national identity, ethnic group, multiple religions in household and main language.

  • Health, disability, and unpaid care variables

    Includes general health, disability, number of disabled people in household and unpaid care.

  • Housing variables

    Includes accommodation type, tenure, number of bedrooms, communal establishments, second addresses and number of cars.

  • International migration variables

    Includes the year that people arrived in the UK and their age, country of birth, length of residence, and migrant indicator.
