Thank you for your request for information relating to weapon offences.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide you with all the data you have requested.

The latest data on offences involving the use of weapons are for the year ending March 2017, with a time series back to the year ending March 2003, and can be accessed at: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/offencesinvolvingtheuseofweaponsdatatables

Data on the proportion of offences recorded by the police in which firearms were reported to have been used, as a percentage of all notifiable offences in particular offence groups can be found in Table 1.

We do not hold data specifically on street related weapon crime or weapon commissioned crime, however Table 10 provides data on the number of offences of robbery recorded by the police in which firearms were reported to be used. These data are broken down by location of offence.

‘Offences involving firearms’ encompass any notifiable offence recorded by the police where a firearm has been fired, used as a blunt instrument or been used as a threat. Firearm possession offences, where the firearm has not been used in the course of another offence, are not included in this analysis. These offences are published in Appendix Table A4 in the Crime in England and Wales quarterly release.

The latest figures for police recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument, in selected violence and sexual offences can be found in Table F3a of the Other related tables published alongside our year ending June 2018 bulletin.

Please note police recorded knife and sharp instrument offences data are submitted via an additional special collection. Proportions of offences involving the use of a knife or sharp instrument presented in this table are calculated based on figures submitted in this special collection. Other offences exist that are not shown in this table that may include the use of a knife or sharp instrument.

We do not hold any data specifically on acid attacks. These offences will be included within assault with injury offences and assault with intent to cause serious harm offences, but cannot be disaggregated.

We do not deal with statistics relating to offenders and therefore we do not hold the information requested on the ethnic background, age and gender of offenders. The Ministry of Justice may be able to help and can be contacted at statistics.enquiries@justice.gov.uk

If you have any further questions please email us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
