FOI reference: FOI-2025-3323

You asked

Could you please provide non-UK residents whose primary purpose of visit was medical treatment (private), by nationality (China), for the last 3 years.

We said

Thank you for your request.

This data is collected by the Office for National Statistics' International Passenger Survey (IPS) which is a continuous sample survey conducted at all major airports and ports in the UK. It is designed to collect information about international travel and tourism; this includes the number of visits, the spend and purpose.

With regards to the specific information you have requested, we have reviewed our data and between January 2023 and June 2025 (our latest published estimates) we found that we sampled less than three cases of Chinese residents/Chinese nationals visiting the UK for the purpose of medical treatment. In addition, we do not distinguish in the IPS if 'medical treatment' is for public of private healthcare. Therefore, we do not hold the requested information.
