Please supply monthly UK mortality due to all cases of pneumonia for year 2020 and year 2021.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore, we do not hold the requested data for the whole of the UK. Should you wish to obtain this data from NRS and NISRA, they can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

England and Wales – 2020:

Our mortality data is derived from information collected at the point of death registration and coded for cause of death is carried out according to the World Health Organization (WHO) International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and internationally agreed rules. The ICD-10 code for pneumonia is J12 – J18.

Deaths involving pneumonia annually in England and Wales is available through the interactive webservice NOMIS. The following table has been taken from this webservice:

Unfortunately, we do not hold a monthly breakdown of deaths from pneumonia in 2020 and 2021. This would need to be created as bespoke analysis via our bespoke services. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. England and Wales – 2021:

Deaths involving and due to influenza and pneumonia are reported in the 'deaths by cause' tab in our Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional publication.
