Thank you for your enquiry.
To provide a response to your question we have used estimates from the Effects of Taxes and Benefits on Household Income (ETB) release. ETB is an annual release looking at how taxes and benefits affect the income of private households in the UK. ETB estimates are mainly derived from the Living Costs and Food Survey (LCF), which is a voluntary sample survey of around 5,500 private households in the UK. The latest available estimates are for the financial year 2015/16. The sample size has meant that it’s not been possible to produce the exact gross income bands that you requested and some of the groups are based on a small number of respondents and should be treated with caution, groups with a sample of less than 30 respondents have been suppressed.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) produce The Family Resources Survey (FRS), which has a sample size of approximately 20,000 private UK households. Income estimates produced from the FRS use The Survey of Personal Incomes (SPI), which is an administrative dataset, to adjust the top of the distribution as both the FRS and LCF surveys under-report the number of individuals with very high incomes. I would recommend contacting DWP as, depending on sample sizes, they might be able to produce gross income bands that align more closely to your original request.
