Thank you for your enquiry.

Please note, we are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore if you have any questions regarding the data presented for Scotland and Northern Ireland, these authorities can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Figures for weeks 46 - 53 of 2020 can be found in our Deaths Registered Weekly for England and Wales publication. This provides provisional weekly figures for deaths from all causes in England and Wales, and total UK deaths per week from COVID-19:

We will publish finalised year-end figures for 2020 in July. This is to allow for the inclusion of deaths have that been referred to Coroner's Inquest, and as such have a registration delay whilst they are investigated. For more information on late registrations and the median delay please see our Impact of registration delays on mortality statistics in England and Wales: 2019

Total UK deaths:

We publish headline figures for deaths registered within our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. The latest data available in this publication is for 2019. This will be updated for 2020 in January 2022. All the UK Statistical authorities have published blogs with year-end figures. We have included the totals from 2018 and 2019 in our Vital Statistics bulletin and the totals calculated from the three blogs in the following table:
