Please provide total deaths in the UK, with data shown yearly from 2000 to 2021?

Thank you for your request.
We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. In collaboration with NRS and NISRA, we have produced the following dataset: Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. This provides historic all-cause mortality statistics up to 2019.
Unfortunately, we do not hold the requested data for 2020 and 2021 for the whole of the UK. Should you wish to obtain this data for Scotland and Northern Ireland, NRS and NISRA can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively. Due to individual publishing timelines, analysis of UK figures as a whole for 2020 are expected to be published in our Vital Statistics bulletin in January 2022.
