I'd like to see the statistics for teenage women (under 20 above 10) who received thrombosis from their contraceptive pill.
I'd like to see how many die from/how many get it and how many deaths it is compared to other causes of death for adolescents in the same age.

Thank you for your request.
You have made a Freedom of Information Request asking how many teenage women (aged 11-19) die from/get thrombosis from their contraceptive pill and how many deaths it is compared to other causes of death for adolescents in the same age.
We only publish data on deaths, so cannot provide the number of teenage girls who are taking the contraceptive pill or how many get thrombosis from it.
Cause of death is coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth revision (ICD-10). There is no specific code for deaths due to thrombosis caused by a contraceptive pill.
There are a number of different codes for thrombosis, if you would like to know the number of deaths caused by thrombosis, please can you specify which type(s) of thrombosis you are interested in. However, this data will include all deaths coded to this cause, and will not be exclusive to those who were taking oral contraceptives.
If a death certificate specifies that the thrombosis was as a result of oral contraception, the death would be coded as Y42.4 (oral contraceptive), however we have not had any deaths coded to this cause before.
Statistics for other causes of death in the same age range, for 2013 - 2015 are available through our explorable data set: https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/select/getdatasetbytheme.asp?theme=73
Other special extracts and tabulations of deaths data for England and Wales are available (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreement of costs, where appropriate). If you would like further information, please contact the team directly at: vsob@ons.gov.uk
