You asked

Can you provide me with data on 'The nature of violent crime in England and Wales: year ending March 2019?'

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We have recently published the nature of violent crime appendix tables covering data for the year ending March 2019 which can be found here. However, the nature of violent crime in England and Wales article pre-dates the most recent data. Instead it refers to the data for year ending March 2018.

Our typical Nature of Crime Table Series are currently going through a new processing system. These crime tables are moving to a three-year dataset. The three-year periods will be year ending March 2014, March 2017 and March 2020. ONS has moved to using three-year datasets as they provide greater accuracy than single year datasets particularly for tables where the base sizes are small. This includes the Nature of Crime Table Series, and generally where breakdowns are required for smaller geographic regions than England and Wales combined. Due to this work, ONS are not publishing the standalone single year figures for 2019. These new figures will be released late summer 2020.

We would need to create a bespoke analysis for nature of crime data, specifically broken down for the year ending March 2019 in order to answer your request. Such analysis would fall outside the FOI regime and would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources, and agreement of costs.
