You asked

I would like to get an understanding of how crime is impacted by the lock down and the current Covid-19 crisis. For this reason I would like to gain access to the following statistics for England and Wales:

Crime and incidents by week for March 2020 in the following:

  • Violent Crime

  • Burglary (domestic)

  • Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs)

Would it also be possible to have an additional level of detail showing the following:

  • Domestic Violence

  • Number of deaths from fatal RTCs

  • Homicide

  • Knife/Sharp incident

  • Firearm offences

Could I also have the same statistics for all of the above for April 2020, week by week?

Thank you for your enquiry.

The latest time period for which we currently hold data on the number of offences reported to and recorded by the police in England and Wales is for the year ending December 2019. These data, which are supplied to us by the Home Office, are available in our Crime in England and Wales, year ending December 2019 release.

We do not currently hold any data on offences recorded by the police in either March or April 2020. Data up to the end of March 2020 are due to be published by us in our Crime in England and Wales, year ending March 2020 release on 16 July 2020.

Additionally, we do not hold data on the number of road traffic collisions (RTCs) or the number of fatalities resulting from RTCs. These data are held by the Department for Transport (DfT); you wish to contact them via: roadacc.stats@dft.gov.uk.

The ONS is currently working with our suppliers to ensure we continue to deliver the vital information needed to respond to the impact of this pandemic on our society.

If you have any crime-related queries in the future, you can email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
