Please can you provide me with a break-down of Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDs) and Unexplained deaths of under 1yr olds, which shows the age of those infants to the nearest month from 2000 until present?

Thank you for your enquiry for data from 2000 until present on Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDs) and unexplained deaths of under 1 year olds, broken down by month. Figures on unexplained infant deaths are available from 2004 onwards.
Our latest publication on Unexplained deaths in infancy are based on infant deaths that occurred in England and Wales in 2017. Table 2 of the Unexplained deaths in infancy 2017 dataset, which is published alongside this release, presents the number and percentages of sudden infant deaths, unascertained deaths and all unexplained infant deaths by age at death, England and Wales, 2004 to 2017. Breakdowns are available by completed months, however we aggregate the data for unexplained infant deaths occurring between 6 and 11 completed months for disclosure control purposes.
It is possible to disaggregate the data by weeks rather months. However, this request would be bespoke analysis and subject to availability of resource. There would be a charge for this service subject to our Charging Policy for unpublished data and the product would also be subject to disclosure control policy. The monthly breakdowns presented in Table 2 are based on low numbers (under 30 deaths for the 2017 year) and therefore it is likely that disclosure controls would apply when the data is broken down by weeks.
