You asked

I am writing in request of statistics for the number of stabbings and shootings that have occurred annually in Nottingham. It would be preferable if you could provide myself with the data which dates back as close to 20 years ago.

IF this information is unavailable/unrecorded i would like access to any data in relation to gang activity crimes either throughout the UK or specifically to Nottingham.

Thank you for your enquiry.

ONS does not hold data on stabbings or shootings for Nottingham specifically. However a number of tables covering offences involving firearms or knives and sharp instruments are available for the police force area of Nottinghamshire.

Quarterly figures for knife and sharp instrument offences covering the year ending March 2009 onwards are available in the Home Office “Knife crime open data year ending March 2009 onwards” release. The earliest available figure for knife and sharp instrument offences is for the year ending March 2008, which can be found in Table 7.11 of the Home Office “Crime in England and Wales 2008/2009” publication (see link to the “Chapter 7 tables”). However please note that the knife crime collection was expanded from the year ending March 2009 onwards, meaning that figures from this period are not comparable with those in the year ending March 2008. We also publish annual overview tables, the most recent covering the year ending March 2011 to the year ending March 2017, which are available in Police force area data table P5 of our “Crime in England and Wales: year ending Mar 2017” publication.

Figures for firearm offences covering the year ending March 2008 to the year ending March 2016 are available in Appendix table 3.12 of our most recent “Focus on violent crime and sexual offences, England and Wales: year ending Mar 2016” publication. Figures for firearm offences covering the year ending March 2004 to the year ending March 2008 are available in Table 2.12 of the Home Office “Homicides, Firearm Offences and Intimate Violence 2007/08” publication. The earliest available figure is for the year ending March 2003, which can be found in Table 2.13 of the Home Office “Crime in England and Wales 2003/2004: Supplementary Volume 1: Homicide and Gun Crime” publication.

Firearms offences for the year ending March 2017 are due to be published on 8 February 2018.

While we publish current data covering firearm and knife offences, this information is produced and held by the Home Office. If you have any further questions regarding these data, please contact them directly via: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

If you have any further question, you can email CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
