Thank you for your recent enquiry.

Data is available for the number of tourists that have visited Wales for the years 2014 and 2015. Data for 2016, however, is not yet available.

The data is available for different types of visitor: inbound visitors (from outside the UK), domestic visitors with an overnight stay, and domestic day visitors. Data on the number of visits and the expenditure of these tourists is presented in the attached spreadsheet.

Data on the value of souvenir sales is not available from surveys of tourists which tend to only cover expenditure on items such as accommodation, eating out and transport. Furthermore, souvenirs cannot be isolated from the standard industrial classification which would cover the sale of items such as pottery, glassware and clothing, and would not separate souvenirs from other types of sale of these items.

This means the value of tourism to Welsh GDP and the revenue and units sold of the souvenir industry cannot be provided.
