What is your source and formula for population statistics as provided in table 12 (supplementary) of the latest Regional Public Sector Finances?

Thank you for your enquiry.
Our source is the ONS mid-year population estimates from June 2018. These data are available on a calendar year basis, whereas our statistics are published on a financial year basis.
In order to derive financial year figures, we assume a uniform distribution across quarters each year e.g. 2016/17 = (0.25*population in 2017)+(0.75*population in 2016).
These result in the same numbers as those shown in Table S12 of our supplementary tables.
