Looking around on various government official websites, including the Office for National Statistics (ONS), it is very difficult to find information on Lancashire small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the sub-region. I have downloaded the Annual Business Survey 2014 from the ONS, which is helpful. But it would be good if we could have data broken down into different sectors for the NUTS 2 and 3 regions for Lancashire.
Can we request the following information?
- Turnover of Lancashire SMEs by sector at NUTS 2 and NUT3 levels
- Lancashire SMEs by size (number of employees) at NUTS 2 and NUT3 levels
- Lancashire SMEs business birth and death rate by sector at NUTS 2 and NUT3 levels

Thank you for your enquiry. Data held on the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) are not available at NUTS 2 and NUTS 3 geography levels but are available down to local authority/district level. We would be able to provide the information as part of our bespoke data services. These are chargeable services.
The official source of turnover information in ONS is the Annual Business Survey and they can be contacted at abs@ons.gov.uk. The number of businesses, number of employees and the birth and death rates of businesses can be produced by the IDBR team and they can be contacted via idbrdas@ons.gov.uk.
Both teams will be able to provide you with advice and a quote for the work.
