FOI REF: FOI-2023-1067

You asked

In light of the Home Offices decision to make Section 5 of the Public Order Act (POA) a non-recordable/notifiable crime under the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR) and National Crime Recording Standards, would it be possible to have the last 5 years worth of Crime recording data for 'violent' Crime offences, both with and without offences of Section 5 POA included in the title.

We said

Thank you for your request.

We publish data on crimes in England and Wales in our Crime in England and Wales quarterly publication. Our latest data is for the year ending December 2022, although we have not recorded any recent Home Office Counting Rule changes to public order or violent crime offences.

Table A4 in the Crime in England and Wales Appendix tables includes data in rows 185-192 for police recorded public order offences. Please also see the A4 notes page which contains information on any changes to the Home Office Counting Rules and caveats around the data included in the table.

Any questions regarding the Home Office Counting Rules are best directed to the Home Office who are better placed to answer any queries. They can be contacted by email: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk
