I am seeking data on road traffic collisions (RTCs) involving motorcycles and the number of motorcyclist fatalities resulting from these RTCs in England and Wales. If this information is available elsewhere, please direct me to where I may find it.
Specifically, I would like to request the following information as individual requests.
- The total number of RTCs in England and Wales for the last five years.
- The total number of RTCs involving motorcycles in England and Wales for the past five years.
- The total number of motorcyclist fatalities resulting from RTCs in England and Wales for the past five years.
- The total number of fatalities resulting from RTCs in England and Wales for the past five years.
- The total number of RTCs involving motorcycles for each police force area in England and Wales for the past five years.
- The total number of motorcyclist fatalities resulting from RTCs for each police force area in England and Wales for the past five years.
- The number of serious injuries sustained by motorcyclists in RTCs for each police force area in England and Wales for the past five years.
- Any available data on the time of day, day of the week, and location (urban/rural) of these RTCs involving motorcycles.

The most up to date statistics on the number of road traffic collisions are available from The Department for Transport (DfT). Their Statistics Finder provides all of the information you have requested up to and including RTC’s occurring in 2023. The data can also be downloaded in Excel format as requested.
Of the statistics provided by DfT within this link, only those on mortality use ONS data. For these, the latest year available is currently for deaths that were registered in 2023, this is because deaths resulting from RTCs are referred to the coroner which creates a delay between date of death and date of registration (which is when the data become available to ONS). DfT collect further data, for example, the number of collisions and injuries, from other sources, not from ONS data.
