Research and development data at local authority level

You asked

I would like to request BERD; HERD; GovERD; PNP; and GERD innovation/R&D data for the last three years, for the following Local Authority areas:

  1. Gwynedd (LL23, LL35-49, LL51-57).

  2. Anglesey (LL58-62 & LL64-78).

  3. Conwy (LL22- 34).

  4. Denbighshire (LL15-21).

  5. Flintshire (CH4-8).

  6. Wrexham (LL11-14).

  7. Wirral (CH26-32, CH41-49, CH60-63).

  8. Cheshire East (CW1-5, CW10-12, SK9-12, SK23, ST7, SY14, WA14-16).

  9. Cheshire West & Chester (CH1-3, CH33-34, CH64-66, CW6-9, SY14, WA4-6)

We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding Research and Development data for BERD; HERD; GovERD; PNP; and GERD at Local Authority level. We are unable to provide this data because the geographical level data is not available for the Research and Development data we collect.

Any analysis at this level would not be sufficiently robust to meet our publication standards because sample sizes are not large enough to pass our disclosure testing programme.

We supply data to Eurostat who publish estimates of R & D expenditure at NUTS 2 level. This is the lowest level of geographical aggregation that is available and does include for example Cheshire as a distinct geography.
