I am looking for rental market evidence for Folkestone, specifically CT20, for July and early August 2026.
Could you please tell me whether the ONS holds any data showing:
- the number of private rental properties available
- rental demand or the number of prospective tenants
- any measure of demand compared with supply
- monthly rental data for July 2026
I am particularly interested in evidence that could show whether there was a shortage/scarcity of private rental properties at that time.

We publish subnational estimates of the number of dwellings by tenure for England. The latest version of these estimates were published on 11 February 2026 in our Subnational estimates of dwellings by tenure, England dataset and is available to download. These data report that the number of privately-rented dwellings in the Folkestone and Hythe local authority was 12,184 in 2024. We do not hold this data broken down further than local authority level.
We do not hold data estimating the rental demand, number of prospective tenants, or direct measurement of demand and supply. However, we do publish our annual Private rental affordability bulletin, in which income with rent price estimates are combined to assess trends and differences in private rental affordability, which are influenced by rental demand and supply. The latest release is the Private rental affordability, England, Wales and Northern Ireland: 2024 bulletin.
We publish our Price Index of Private Rents, UK: monthly price statistics dataset on a monthly basis, and the data are available to download. In the 12 months to July 2026, the average private rental price increased by 3.7% in the UK, reaching an average of £1,393 per month.
For Folkestone and Hythe, the average private rental price increased by 11.1% in the 12 months to July 2026, reaching an average of £1,176 per month. We do not hold this data broken down further than local authority level. Private rent price statistics are also available within this dataset for other breakdowns, including by bedroom category and property type.
