Attempted suicides
Our suicide data is driven by information taken from the death certificate. Therefore, we do not hold data relating to attempted suicides. NHS Digital would be better placed to answer this enquiry. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.
Registered suicides
Please see the following publication: Suicides in England and Wales: Registrations publication. This provides registered deaths in England and Wales from suicide analysed by sex, age, area of usual residence of the deceased, and suicide method from the years 2011 – 2019.
Please also see the following user requested dataset, which shows suicide data by month of occurrence for the years 1981 to 2015: Suicides by month of occurrence, 1981 to 2015 for England and Wales. This dataset does not show a breakdown of suicide data by sex, age group, or region.
Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with suicide data from 1981 to 2011 for the UK broken down by sex, age group, or region. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create bespoke analysis for you. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held. This dataset may be available to commission as bespoke analysis. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs.
