You asked

I would like to request data on UK Cyber Crime rates: how many cases lead to the prosecution of the offenders and what sentences are received for each case?

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold the exact information you have requested; however, we hope you find the following information helpful.

The crime data we hold primarily come from two sources: police recorded crime and the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). Both these data relate to England and Wales.

Police recorded crime relates to offences that come to the attention of and are recorded by police forces. The CSEW is a face-to-face victimisation survey asking respondents in residential households about their experience of crime in the last 12 months.

In table F8 within quarterly Crime in England and Wales: Other related tables, you will find data presenting the number of offences recorded by the police in England and Wales which were flagged as online crime.

Separate data are available from the CSEW on the proportion of fraud incidents where the internet or any type of online activity was related to any aspect of the offence. The latest estimates are available in table E2 in within Crime in England and Wales: Additional tables on fraud and cybercrime.

We do not hold data on outcomes or sentencing. This data is held and published by the Ministry of Justice who can be contacted via e-mail at statistics.enquiries@justice.gov.uk.
