You asked:

I would like to request the most recent data on the percentage share of EU-born workers in sectors in London, and the economic value of those sectors to London.

We said:

I am writing in response to your freedom of information request asking for the following information:

  1. the percentage share of EU- born workers in sectors in London
  2. the economic value of those sectors to London

In response to your first question: Information on the country of birth, industry and location of workers are all collected on the Annual Population Survey (APS), however we do not regularly produce any outputs on this basis. Therefore information on the percentage share of EU-born workers is not readily available from published outputs.

Although we do not produce regular analysis on this basis, you can request an ad-hoc analysis be produced to give this detailed information from our Social Surveys Division. Special extracts and tabulations of data are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries should be made to socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk

As this information is already available to you via this route, ONS considers that s.21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. s.21(1) is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied. Another route would be to access the Annual Population Survey datasets at the UK Data Service if you are able to run your own analysis. Details of how to access the data can be found here - http://ukdataservice.ac.uk/get-data/how-to-access.aspx

Data can be downloaded free of charge for non-commercial purposes but if charges are applicable, you will be notified during the ordering process.

In response to your second questions: Estimates for the economic value of different sectors in London are shown in table 1. Please note that these estimates are provisional. Revised (non-provisional) figures are available for the years 1997 – 2014 on our website -
